Ironhorse Backers Looking into Lawsuit against Grayslake

Bad Boyz | Biker Rallies | Thursday, May 8th, 2008

Last weekend, one of the largest planned biker rallies in the mid west was abruptly cancelled by town officials two days before the event was scheduled.

The village of Grayslake Illinois pulled the permit for the 4th annual Ironhorse Motorcycle Roundup after being warned by some state cops and some feds that rival motorcycle “gangstas”, the Outlaws and Hells Lovers (affiliates of the bad boy Angels), were planning to have a little brew-ha-ha.

The event was expected to attract from 20,000 to 40,000 bikers from around the country. Over 120 vendors were expecting to participate. Many people lost a lot of money, and/or the opportunity to make some.

Because the town was afraid a fight might break out at a biker rally? Gimme a break!

Maintaining the Leather

Bad Boyz | Leather Tips | Wednesday, May 7th, 2008

You just got yourself a brand new leather motorcycle jacket and a pair of chaps. You’re looking cool and shiny cruising down a mountain road, when all of a sudden the sky breaks loose all over your spanking clean leather. Ruined? I think not, if you had the foresight to prepare for the unexpected.

While all serious bikers know of the valuable protection afforded by good quality motorcycle leather, the fact of the matter is that riding motorcycles is an outdoor recreation, and as such, the leather we wear is going to be exposed to the elements.

An unexpected rain storm on a crisp autumn day, a roadside mud bath from a clueless SUV, oil, grease and gasoline, even scruff marks from close encounters of the road all take a toll on your leather motorcycle gear.

Whether you splurged for a top of the line naked leather set, went for the more affordable top grain, or just got some really cheap splits, there are precautions you can take, and repairs that can be made to help ensure that your leathers have a reasonable lifetime.

Here’s a post I ran across from Biker Boyz blog: 10 Tips To Help Your Motorcycle Leather Last Longer. Heed the Boyz advice, take care of your leathers and they will return the favor.

Leather Motorcycle Jackets: Understanding the Tanning Process

Bad Boyz | Leather Tips | Tuesday, December 11th, 2007

Ladies Motorcycle JacketBecause leather is the skin of an animal, if left untreated it will decompose and rot. Tanning makes the leather rot proof and consists of several stages, the more stages implemented, the thinner the leather. Stages include removing the hair, the outer layer of skin, and the fatty part of the flesh. Afterwards, the hides are treated either with animal oils, vegetable, alum, or chrome salt in order to stabilize the skin.

The term grain is used to describe the epidermis or outer layer of skin, and should be understood to determine the choices of leather available. The grain of the hide has the best fiber strength and a natural breathability, and depending on how much of the grain is removed in the tanning process determines the durability, thickness and comfort of the leather motorcycle jacket.

What to look for when Shopping for a Motorcycle Jacket

Bad Boyz | Leather Tips | Saturday, November 24th, 2007

Style is good, and there are many out there. But when considering a new motorcycle jacket purchase, protection should be of the utmost concern, and different types of leather afford various degrees of protection.
First of all, riding grade motorcycle jackets should be made from cowhide or buffalo hide. Avoid Pigskin. While it is thick and pretty, it is not very durable and will tear easily, leaving you with little between your hide and the road. The same is true with the other soft leathers such as lambskin or deerskin. Soft leather is perfectly fine for a vest, or other piece of apparel not meant for protection.

But for a motorcycle jacket or chaps for that matter, they are your only defense between your skin and the road, and should be made from the toughest, thickest leather you can get.

Striving for Quality with Naked Leather Motorcycle Jackets

Bad Boyz | Press Releases | Sunday, September 16th, 2007

This just in! Here’s a press release from the other side of our site, Biker Leather Ltd, our online biker leather store.

Sept. 14, 2007 Fall is here, and change is happening at Biker Leather Ltd. Just like the hurricane season we have not yet really seen, Biker Leather in 2007 is about to take the online motorcycle leather industry by storm! What’s the buzz?

We are dropping our line of top grain motorcycle jeckets. Yes, after much consideration and consultation with our loyal online customers, we have decided to strive for quality, and our naked leather motorcycle jackets and chaps have won hands over our top grain line of apparel. “The top grain jacket I recently purchased from you guys is obviously of excellent workmanship” writes Sean of Perth Australia, “but compared to the naked leather jacket I bought last year, it is stiff and rigid. I suspect it will take a couple of months of heavy use before it finally becomes worn in.”

Naked leather is where it’s at! Our customers prefer quality over cheapness, and our full grain naked leather provides the best protection available, averaging 1.3mm in thickness, and is soft and supple from the very beginning, requiring absolutely no time to wear in.

And, we are slashing prices dramatically on our riding grade line of naked leather, in some cases over 35%! Jackets that would normally sell for $200 and up on the web are now as low as $119 at Biker Leather Ltd. Try to find comparable quality naked leather jackets at a brick and mortar store, and you could be paying well over $300. Our goal is to bring you the best quality biker leather at the lowest possible price.

Another big change, our line of western wear jackets, vests, and chaps, as well as some other designs of stylish apparel, are manufactured from top grade soft leather. The soft leathers are very similar to naked leather in look and feel. Soft and supple to the touch, our medium to heavy soft leather reaches 1.1 mm in thickness, perfect for a Bomber Jacket, or our line of Native American Style Western Wear.

More Changes on the Horizon: Look for more variety of styles. We will be adding new jackets, chaps, and vests in our men and women’s line in both naked and soft leather.

  • Expanded line of PVC Saddle Bags and Sissybar Bags
  • A new line of Cordura Jackets for men and women
  • DOT Motorcycle Helmets and an expanded line of biker accessories

Biker Leather Ltd. strives to be your one stop shop for all your leather biker gear and accessories. Premium full grain and top grade soft leather jackets, chaps, winter coats, and vests, biker boots, leather and fingerless gloves, saddlebags and Sissybar bags, one and two piece rain suits, leather western wear - and for the serious biker babe - tops, bottoms, and some totally wicked leather lingerie.
