Chaps have long been thought of as an indispensable part of motorcycle safety gear. Just as leather is the defacto standard for protective jackets, motorcycle chaps made from leather are intended to protect the lower torso from the elements, and more importantly, from an abrasive skid on an asphalt surface.
Our motorcycle chaps come in a variety of styles and in many grades of leather. Since chaps are intended to be worn over a thick pair of jeans, it is not always necessary to go with the thickest grade, allowing for a better choice for comfort, especially in warmer climates.
Our lightest styles of chaps are made either from our premium lightweight leather, or from split cowhide. Splits are the bottom part of the hide that do not have the grain, and are therefore considered the weakest of the grades.
Premium buffalo and cowhide are riding grade leathers, have excellent strength, and are quite affordable. These premium leathers range anywhere from 1.1 to 1.3 millimeters in thickness.
Ultra naked leather is the softest, thickest, and strongest grade of leather for the motorcycle enthusiast. It is termed naked because it is without embellishment, i.e. nothing is added to it during the tanning process except the dye. Our drum dyed naked leather chaps range from 1.3 to 1.5mm in thickness, depending on the style.
Whatever your preference for style and grade,
do not take the importance of a good pair of chaps lightly! Whereas a good
helmet will definitely assist in surviving a crash, a good set of leathers
will often determine the length of recovery!

Measuring for Chaps
Wear your Jeans when measuring for chaps. Measure your thigh at it's thickest part with your jeans on. The waist is adjustable. The legs can be cut off to the desirable length, with very sharp sissors, after careful measuring. Wear the boots or shoes you plan to wear with your chaps when you measure where to cut. Sit down, see where the chaps hit your boot to be sure they are not too short. Chaps that have been cut can not be returned.
